Reverse Racism

Multiculturalism

March 14th, 2007

Interesting little story I found on Abby News

A minute’s silence in honour of the three women killed in last week’s tragic farm worker van accident was observed Friday night at the Fraser Valley Cultural Diversity Awards.

Manpreet Grewal of Abbotsford Community Services in her welcoming address focused on the issue: “Look at it through the human rights lens.”

Wally Oppal, B.C. attorney general and minister responsible for multiculturalism, told the crowd that multiculturalism is a cross-ministry endeavour.

I love to speak to high schools to see how kids have embraced multiculturalism.

In France, for example, Canada is seen as a model for its integration, he said, adding that a cross-multicultural community exists in the Fraser Valley.

Oppal said critics say it is divisive and counter-productive, but pointed out his

government has injected $1 million into anti-racism endeavours.

Promote multiculturalism, it helps fight racism.

Writer, CBC broadcaster and performer Margaret Gallagher served as master of ceremonies Friday night, when 410 guests dined on a dinner buffet of foods from India, Japan, Canada, China, Italy and France.

Entertainment was provided by Blackthorn, a Vancouver-based folk group celebrating the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland, as well as folk music of English and French Canada.

Different Justice for Different Races

March 12th, 2007

I live in Portland Oregon, I live amongst people of varying races, generally pretty happily. I don’t have A black friend, or a Hispanic friend, etc. I just have friends, lots of them, lots of races, from African African to American African, to me.

I grew up in ethnic schools, I drove a taxi working with people from several varying cultures, and although I have personally witnessed racism on many levels, against both whites, blacks, and several other races, I have always believed that the media feeds into racism.

I believe that racism is blown out of proportion whenever we go back to the days of slavery, I know that many black people, and members of other racist, are just as racist as their white counterparts, and many racist people, who are not white, but hold a grudge against white people because of moral crimes their ancestors committed, believe themselves to be justified in their beliefs.

Since starting this blog, I have to admit, I’ve obviously been paying a bit more attention, and am often shocked by the comments people make. For whatever reason, most people are afraid to post their comments here, where they can be responded to by the visitors of this website, most post their comments on Digg, or other websites where this blog is mentioned.

The question I seem to get the most often, why are you mad? Why do you think that is racism? Maybe I am getting racial separation confused with racism, because I am very much against both. However, when a class is divided by race, or a man does not get a job due to race, and so forth, how can you not be angry?

When a judge lets a murderer walk, either because of his race, or perhaps the judge didn’t think that a prostitute’s life was worth much punishment, explain to me why I should not be angry?
