Reverse Racism

Affirmative Action Debate

April 30th, 2007

A friend of mine and I were recently discussing Real Estate Discrimination, and affirmative action. His point where Affirmative Action is concerned is that he should not be passed over for a job because the company hasn’t hired enough minorities. I agree. I don’t think that affirmative action is the answer.  We do need something in place however, else racism is allowed to run rampant correct?

He doesn’t think so, he doesn’t believe  anyone should  be forced to hire a person of color (I didn’t specifically ask about women, who are also covered by affirmative action) just because the government says so.

If it’s your company my friend believes you should be able to hire whomever you like. I agree to some point.  I don’t believe that one should HAVE to hire a black man over a white man just because they need a black man to keep the numbers right,  and frankly, I doubt there are many black men that would take a job if they realized that’s why they got it.

But you can’t just choose to discriminate, whether it be conscious discrimination or unconscious discrimination right? Again I don’t know the fix, or the how it should be regulated, but I do disagree with my friend, I believe that it MUST be regulated.

His stance here by the way, to be fair to him, isn’t pro-discrimination, it’s con-government control.. We’ll be talking more about the conversation he and I had in my post about housing discrimination here soon. In the meantime, I’m very interested in reading the comments and ideas from Racist Faces readers.

Don Imus : Racism, Sexism, or Just Bad Taste?

MSNBC and CBS Suspend Don Imus For Two Weeks

Apology Not Accepted! (AP)

In the five days since he referred to members of the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team, as “nappy-headed hos,” Don Imus has apologized so many times I’ve lost count. For some people, in particular Al Sharpton, no amount of “sorries” can make up for what he said. Sharpton along with Jesse Jackson and number of other supporters want the aging shock jock fired for what they feel were racist comments. Some have picketed outside of the NBC tower, Sharpton pummeled him on his nationally syndicated radio show and MSNBC and CBS have suspended him for two weeks.
